About the Villains Of Yesterday
Formed in November '09 on the streets of Seattle's "Industrial District", the four die-hard musicians and longtime friends of "Villains Of Yesterday" hit the ground running delivering edgy and infectious rock 'n roll for hard rocking, fun loving music fans everywhere. Not a group to shy away from hard work, the Villains have been very diligent about their craft - releasing their first self-produced EP in April of 2010, and now the summer of 2011 brings their second self-produced full length CD entitled "Zero in the Sun", recorded in Los Angeles with Brent Clawson of the Orange County band "Bullets and Octane". The group also produced their first HD video for the song "Walls" from the album, with the keen visual style of video director Jamie Burton Chamberlin. A second video for the song "Bear & Shoulder" is slated to begin production in June '11.
Highlights from the album include the songs "Walls", the hard hitting track "Hell or High Water" and the title track "Zero in the Sun". Showcasing how quickly the group has grown, the band created a haunting version of "Under the Gun". "California Moon", inspired by the first road tour - showcases the bands distinct urgency and pop sensibility. "There is a chemistry that comes through on the album that is just contagious. There really were some magical moments when we were recording this." says drummer Shawn Zellar. "We took some chances on certain songs, and they worked" adds bassist Sean Gephardt. While the guys dream of the warm California lifestyle, Seattle has made the Villains of Yesterday feel right at home, and the first single "Bear & Shoulder" from "Zero in the Sun" is receiving airplay on "Seattle's Best Rock" station, KISW 99.9 FM, with many thanks to DJ personality Jolene.
Determined to play for eager audiences everywhere, the band's first performance in January 2010 was to benefit the Earthquake victims of Haiti, and also featured Kurt Bloch's 'The Fixers' at Seattle's "Showbox SODO". The 2010 tour schedule was highlighted by opening for Shawn Smith (of Brad) and My Sister's Machine during the 2010 Layne Staley Tribute concert at Seattle's famous "Showbox at the Market". The band has since played several shows along the West coast, opening for popular bands such as L.A. Guns and Blackboard Jungle. The Summer of 2011 has the group again traveling the West coast and beyond supporting "Zero in the Sun", starting with a release party Memorial weekend at the Hard Rock Cafe in Seattle and landing in LA, to make their first appearance at the infamous Viper Room in June.
Terry Houser, lead vocalist
Growing up in a family of musicians gave Terry the opportunity to develop his ear early. He has been performing on stage since a very early age and relishes his roots in the Americana, Power Pop, and Rock genres. Energetic and versatile best describes Terry's urgent vocal style. He jumps to the front by improvising melodies as a direct reaction to the music the band is creating. He has recorded and performed with "The Cooks", "Handsome Devils" and is also currently a member of the hard rock band "ManAlive". Terry has opened shows for "Berlin", "Dave Alvin", "L.A. Guns" and more.
Carl Klein, guitars and vocals
Carl picked up his first guitar as a child while living in Jakarta, Indonesia. With early influences made up of "The Beatles", "Judas Priest", "Scorpions" and "Motley Crue", Carl continues to refine a "loud" style of guitar playing that he has built on throughout his career. Some of his notable bands include grunge rock band "Dandilyon Soup", and a band known for it's experimental keyboards and guitars, "Noxious Weed Inspector". Carl has opened shows with "Zeke", "Alice in Chains" and "Soundgarden" and loads of other great bands. He also currently plays guitar in the Seattle punk band "26000 Volts".
Sean Gephardt, bass and vocals
With one hand in pop and the other in jazz, and hailing from the "Show Me" state of Missouri, bassist Sean Gephardt spent much of his youth learning to play along with "Metallica" and "Frank Zappa" CDs, before attending the Musicians' Institute in Los Angeles. Sean's previous groups include "Creature of Habit" and "Nickle Bag". He's also shared the stage with the likes of "Gruntruck", and has jammed with several other artists up and down the West Coast.
